One of Brunei Darussalam’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Initiatives is the introduction of Energy Labelling and Standards for electrical products to the national market through the subsequently established Energy Labelling and Standards Task Force (ELSTF) in the Energy Division, Prime Minister’s Office. This Task Force was formed in September 2008 aimed to further promote energy efficiency and conservation practices in Brunei Darussalam which comprises of representatives from the Energy Division, Prime Minister’s Office, the Department of Technical Services, Public Works Department and the Department of Electrical Services.
Brunei Darussalam’s Energy Labelling Scheme is designed to harmonise those of in the region with similar electrical operating parameters and climating conditions.
WHAT IS THE OBJECTIVE OF HAVING AN ENERGY LABEL?
The objective of energy labeling is to inform consumers the level of energy efficiency of an electrical product. The labels are hoped to encourage these better informed consumers to invest in energy efficient appliances for long-term gains.
WHAT KIND OF APPLIANCES WILL BE LABELLED FOR ITS ENERGY EFFICIENCY RATE?
The Energy Labelling Scheme will be launched as a voluntary basis scheme effective from 26th May 2008 preliminary for single-phase non-ducted room air conditioners having a coolling capacity of:- • 8.8 kW or lower, in the case of window type air-conditioners; or •17.6 kW or lower, in the case of spit type (non-inverter) air-conditioners
The scheme will be extended to other types of air conditioners (such as split type), refrigerators, water heaters, and other products in the later stage.
The Energy Label will be issued in the form of a certificate and shall be based on a 5-Star rating scheme as follows:-

REGISTRATION OF SUPPLIERS AND/OR PRODUCTS
Importers who wish to participate in the Energy Labelling Scheme may submit applications for both supplier registration and for product registration to the Energy Labelling and Standards Task Force of Energy Division, Prime Minister's Office. No charges will be imposed for registration for suppliers and/or prodcuts.
Applicants will be notified of the outcome in writing within 10 working days. If the registration is successful, the Certificate of Registration which includes the Energy Label will be issued.
