The ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Energy (SOME) and its Associated Meetings held its 41st iteration (41st SOME) at the ASEAN Secretariat Headquarters in Jakarta, Republic of Indonesia from 19th to 23rd June 2023. Present at the Meeting as the Head of Delegation from Brunei Darussalam was Yang Mulia Pengiran Haji Jamra Weira bin Pengiran Haji Petra, Acting Permanent Secretary (Energy) at the Prime Minister’s Office in his capacity as the Senior Official on Energy Leader of Brunei Darussalam.
The Meeting was officiated with the Welcome Remarks by His Excellency Arifin Tasrif, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources for the Republic of Indonesia which was followed by the assumption of Indonesia as the Chairperson to the 41st SOME, and Lao PDR as the Vice-Chairperson. With the theme “ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth”, the Meeting discussed on the highlights and progress updates of the seven (7) key programme areas under the ASEAN Plan of Action on Energy Cooperation Phase II: 2021 – 2025 (APAEC Phase II: 2021 – 2025), including the ASEAN Power Grid (APG), the Trans-ASEAN Gas Pipeline (TAGP), Coal and Clean Coal Technology (CCT), Energy Efficiency & Conservation (EE&C), Renewable Energy (RE), Regional Energy Policy & Planning (REPP) and Civilian Nuclear Energy (CNE). The Meeting also deliberated on the Mid-Term Review of the APAEC Phase II: 2021 – 2025 and the collaborations with ASEAN Dialogue Partners and International Organisations.
The Associated Meetings includes the 5th SOME – International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Dialogue, 14th SOME – International Energy Agency (IEA) Dialogue, 1st ASEAN – Asian Development Bank (ADB) Energy Dialogue, 1st ASEAN – EU Energy Dialogue, 24th SOME – METI Consultation Meeting, 22nd SOME+3 Energy Policy Governing Group (EPGG) Meeting, 14th SOME – Russia Dialogue, 14th SOME – U.S. Dialogue and the 28th East Asia Summit Energy Cooperation Task Force Meeting (28th EAS ECTF).
The five-day Meetings saw attendance of the ASEAN Senior Officials on Energy Leaders, ASEAN Council on Petroleum (ASCOPE), Head of ASEAN Power Utilities/Authorities (HAPUA), ASEAN Power Grid Consultative Committee (APGCC), ASEAN Energy Regulatory Network (AERN), Chair of the respective Sub-Sector Networks, ASEAN Dialogue Partners and International Organisations, ASEAN Secretariat and the ASEAN Centre for Energy.
