Department of Electrical Services Provides Additional Power Supply to Critical Areas during COVID-19 Pandemic

12 October 2021

The Department of Electrical Services (DES), Ministry of Energy (ME) has been and will continue to be responsible to provide continuous, safe and reliable electricity to homes, businesses, and other critical facilities and essential services such as the COVID-19 National Isolation and Vaccination Centres.

Since the beginning of the second outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic back in August 2021, and following the country’s increasing need to have additional healthcare facilities to treat the affected COVID-19 patients, DES has once again stepped up their efforts to increase the reliability of their electricity supply with the provision of alternative source as back-up to several critical facilities identified by the Ministry of Health (MOH).

Some of the identified additional healthcare facilities include the COVID-19 National Isolation Centres namely the National Service Programme Camp – Program Khidmat Bakti Negara (PKBN) Complex in Temburong district, and the New Isolation Centre (NIC) at Ma’had Islam Brunei in Tutong district. DES has also provided electricity supply for the Vaccination Centres throughout the 4 districts as well as the newly set-up virology laboratory at BRIDEX. DES is determined to provide continuous electricity to healthcare facilities and other critical government operations, to ensure Brunei’s healthcare heroes, especially our frontline COVID-19 healthcare workers and volunteers, have the electricity they need to care for the people of our community.
