Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja (Rtd) Major General Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and the Minister of Defence II attended the 15th anniversary of the commercial operations of Brunei Methanol Company (BMC) as Guest of Honour on 11 September 2025 at the Indera Samudra Grand Hall, The Empire Brunei.
Other notable guests include Ambassadors and High Commissioners; Yang Mulia Dato Seri Paduka Haji Khairuddin bin Haji Abdul Hamid, Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy (Economy); and shareholders representatives from Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company and Itochu Corporation.
BMC also hosted a Sustainable Methanol Forum in the afternoon, bringing together industry leaders, government representatives, and experts to discuss the future of low-carbon methanol. Yang Mulia Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohamad Azmi bin Haji Mohd Hanifah, Deputy Minister (Energy) at the Prime Minister’s Office delivered an opening remark as the Special Guest at the forum. The forum focused on Brunei Darussalam’s shift towards a more sustainable and diversified economy, positioning methanol as a frontrunner to green growth and a strategic enabler of the nation’s future. The Department of Energy at the Prime Minister’s Office also presented a topic entitled “Driving Economic Diversification through Methanol” during the forum.
