“Energy Security and Energy Transition: Today and Tomorrow” exhibition was officially launched on 15th June 2022 as part of a series of events during the Brunei Energy Week in conjunction with the Mid-Year Conference and Exhibition (MYCE) 2022. The event is taking place at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Berakas. The four-day event celebrates the Energy Sector’s significant contribution as the key engine of Brunei Darussalam’s economic growth in building a brighter future for Bruneians. Present as Guest of Honour to officiate the event were Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (B) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Paduka Dr. Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism and Yang Berhormat Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport.
Also in attendance were Yang Mulia Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Haji Mohd Tasim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs; Yang Mulia Dato Seri Paduka Haji Matsatejo bin Sokiaw, Deputy Minister of the Department of Energy at the Prime Minister’s Office; Yang Mulia Mohamed Riza, Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; Permanent Secretaries and Deputy Permanent Secretaries of the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Finance and Economy, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and Department of Energy in the Prime Minister’s Office.
This year’s Energy Week aim to raise awareness on the Energy Sector’s resilience in the wake of the ever-changing global energy market, with Energy Security and Energy Transition being its central focus. Energy Security is characterized by the need for a safe, reliable and uninterrupted supply of energy to drive economies, businesses and societies towards sustainability while Energy Transition addresses the country’s commitment towards a more sustainable and cleaner energy industry. The country’s energy transformation takes into consideration the transition towards a low carbon energy system to safeguard the nation’s environmental heritage. In line with the theme, the exhibition provides an exclusive access to the latest initiatives including local employment opportunities and sustainable development efforts in the energy sector. Among the exhibitors joining the exhibition are the Department of Energy, the Department of Electrical Services (DES), Safety, Health and Environment National Authority (SHENA), Petroleum Authority of Brunei Darussalam, higher education institutions, leading oil and gas and power operators.
A series of interactive sessions between businesses, entrepreneurs, members of the public and the energy sector’s professionals and related agencies were organized to raise awareness on the Energy Sector’s development. A market engagement session is being held over the four days, with the main objective to connect local entrepreneurs and companies with the country’s leading oil and gas operators as part of the initiatives to support local businesses’ penetration into the energy sector. The market engagement session will feature activities including vendor pitching and MSME clinic.
In supporting the development of local manpower in the energy sector, a Career Path Fair is being organized as part of the initiative to provide jobseekers and members of the public with an unparalleled access to gather employment information and acquire quality career advise directly from representatives from energy industry and other relevant institutions. During the four-day event, the Energy Week will also be launching the Human Resource Competency Framework (HRCF) for the Department of Energy. HRCF has been established as a mechanism for the strategic development of the human resources of the Department of Energy to further assist the growth of its workforce capabilities in line with the development of Brunei Darussalam’s energy sector.
The Energy Week also brings together Energy Sector’s industry players and academia in an in-depth strategic discussion on energy matters. A Symposium will be taking place on 16th June 2022, featuring panel discussions on a wide range of energy topics. It aims to provide a platform to discuss the future challenges of oil and gas industry in Brunei Darussalam, insights to energy transition to sharing of Bruneian leaders’ career journey in the oil & gas businesses. An Energy Seminar will be taking place on 17th June 2022 with the main objective to foster discussions amongst participants that covered a wide range of topics and case studies, such as subsurface, safety, asset integrity, green energy and enabling technology to unlock upstream opportunities. In emphasizing operational safety in the Energy Sector, a closing ceremony of the Safety Month in conjunction with World Day for Safety and Health at Work (WDSHW) will be held on 18hb June 2022.
As part of an initiative from the Department of Electrical Services, a blood donation campaign was held on 15th June 2022 to mark the department’s 100th year anniversary. In further highlighting the evolution of the power sector in Brunei Darussalam, site visits are being conducted to Bukit Panggal Power Station, Berakas Power Station and the National Control Centre from 16th to 18th June 2022. The visits aim to provide exposure to students on modern technology used in increasing energy efficiency through power generation.
The Brunei Mid-Year Conference and Exhibition 2022 (Brunei MYCE 2022) is organized by the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism through the Brunei Tourism Board in collaboration with government agencies, statutory bodies, stakeholders and private agencies. The Brunei MYCE 2022 is also fully supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. The event is also supported by the partnering agencies D’Sunlit Sdn Bhd as the event operator; Datastream Digital Sdn Bhd (DST) as the official Telco partner; as well as several official media partners, namely Radio Television Brunei (RTB), the Information Department (Pelita Brunei) and Brunei Press Sdn Bhd.
