Electricity Sector for the Commercial Sector Reviewed

Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (R) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II, in his ministerial remarks during 22nd Legislative Council Meeting on 17 March 2026, has shared that the electricity tariff for the commercial sector has been reviewed and stated that:

  • The current tariff for the commercial sector has been reviewed from “regressive” to “progressive”, to encourage prudent energy use and support the financing of the growing energy system. This is to ensure energy security, strengthen investor confidence and attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) to the country.

  • This matter was also highlighted by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Awang Haji Mohd. Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II in his statement on 2026/2027 Financial Year budget during the 22nd Legislative Council Meeting that took place on 14th March 2026.

  • Progressive electricity tariff for the commercial sector is proposed to be implemented in 2028.
