The 1st Asia Zero Emission Community Senior Officials’ Meeting (ASOM1) convened in Jakarta, Republic of Indonesia on 24th June 2023. Present at the Meeting as the Head of Delegation from Brunei Darussalam was Yang Mulia Pengiran Haji Jamra Weira bin Pengiran Haji Petra, Acting Permanent Secretary (Energy) at the Prime Minister’s Office in his capacity as the AZEC Senior Official Member (ASOM Member) of Brunei Darussalam.
The Meeting was officiated with a Special Remarks by His Excellency Arifin Tasrif, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources for the Republic of Indonesia which was followed by the Opening Remarks by Mr. Ryo Minami, Japan’s ASOM Member. During the meeting, Japan as the pioneer of the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) initiatives announced their support in the field of technology transfer, finance, and human resources.
In support of the Net Zero framework, Japan also presented three case studies on AZEC– 1 Masterplan of Hydrogen and Ammonia, 2) Common Understanding and Technology Standards for CCS and 3) Further promotion of Joint Credit Mechanism. The meeting’s high-level delegation and participants deliberated and gave views on the support and policy coordination under AZEC.
The meeting brings together ASOM members from the ASEAN, Japan, Australia as well as delegation from ASEAN Centre for Energy (ERIA) and Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA).
