Ministerial Interface Meeting on Sustainable Development Agenda under the ASEAN Economic Community

​The Honorable Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (R) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, Brunei Darussalam, attended virtually the Ministerial Interface Meeting on Sustainable Development Agenda under the ASEAN Economic Community on 9 November 2022. His Honourable Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office was accompanied by Yang Mulia Pengiran Haji Jamra Weira bin Pengiran Haji Petra, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Energy) at the Prime Minister’s Office, in his capacity as the Senior Official on Energy Leaders of Brunei Darussalam, as well as officials from the Department of Energy at the Prime Minister’s Office.

Held at the sideline of the 21st ASEAN Economic Community Council Meeting in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, the main objective of the Meeting is to enhance regional efforts in creating a greater synergy across the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), particularly between the economic, energy, transport, and agriculture and forestry sectors to advance the region’s agenda on sustainable economic development. 

The Meeting was Chaired by His Excellency Pan Sorasak, Minister of Commerce, Kingdom of Cambodia, as the current Chair of the ASEAN Economic Community Council Ministers, and was attended by the Ministers and representatives of the ASEAN Member States from the four (4) sectoral ministerial bodies, namely, the ASEAN Economic Community Council Ministers; ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM); ASEAN Transportation Ministers (ATM); and ASEAN Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry (AMAF).

During the Meeting, the Ministers acknowledged the need to continually discuss emerging issues that have considerable implication to the region’s economic community building agenda, particularly in promoting and supporting ASEAN’s initiatives towards achieving carbon neutrality. The sectoral ministerial bodies have also agreed to scale up cross-sectoral coordination and collaboration that is more systematic, integrative and coherent to advance the work on carbon neutrality through promotion of green growth strategies and approaches.
