The Honourable Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Mohamad Azmi bin Haji Mohd Hanifah, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office (Energy, Upstream and Downstream) received a Courtesy Call from His Excellency Kikuta Yutaka, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Brunei Darussalam. The Courtesy Call was held on 31st August 2026, at the Prime Minister’s Office.
Both sides discussed the current energy landscape, upcoming priorities, as well as opportunities to strengthen the long-standing bilateral energy cooperation between Brunei Darussalam and Japan, with a focus on advancing shared interests and supporting a resilient and sustainable energy future.
Brunei Darussalam and Japan have maintained strong energy cooperation as Brunei Darussalam has exported LNG and crude oil to Japan for more than 50 years. Brunei Darussalam’s export to Japan has also now expanded to include methanol and urea.
