Yang Mulia Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Mohamad Azmi Bin Haji Mohd Hanifah
Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Mohamad Azmi bin Haji Mohd Hanifah graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical and Process Engineering from the University of Surrey, United Kingdom, and started his career in Brunei Shell Petroleum Sendirian Berhad (BSP) as a Graduate Process Engineer in 1995. He has over 28 years of experience in the Oil and Gas Industry, including 4-year posting in Oman and 5-year secondment holding senior roles in the Ministry of Energy and the Energy and Industry Department, Prime Minister’s Office then. He also spent almost 2 years with a local Oil and Gas Contractor company.
In BSP, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Mohamad Azmi has held several roles in engineering disciplines as Process Engineer, Offshore Campaign Engineer and Front-End Engineer. He delivered projects of significant value by managing a number of Engineering Departments such as the Corporate Front-End Engineering, the West Asset Engineering, the Onshore Engineering and Construction, and the Asset Engineering Design.
In 2013 until 2018, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Mohamad Azmi was seconded to the Government as the Head of Energy Services Business Development at the Energy Department, Prime Minister’s Office prior to his appointments as the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Energy & Industry), Permanent Secretary (Industry) and Permanent Secretary (Energy & Industry). He was also appointed as members to several Government Linked Companies (GLC) and Government Statutory Bodies.
He rejoined BSP in 2020, as BSP Commercial Director. In 2021, he was appointed as Deputy Managing Director of BSP in addition to his Commercial Director role. Yang Berhormat was later appointed as the Deputy Minister (Energy) at the Prime Minister’s Office on 24th October 2023 for the period of 3 years.
By command of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, he was appointed as the Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office (Energy, Upstream and Downstream) on 4th June 2026.
