7th East Asia Summit Clean Energy Forum (EAS CEF)

Yang Mulia Dato Seri Paduka ​Awang Haji Mohamad Azmi bin Haji Mohd Hanifah, Deputy Minister (Energy) at the Prime Minister’s Office attended the 7th East Asia Summit Clean Energy Forum (EAS CEF) from 4th to 5th November 2025 that was held in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, People’s Republic of China. Co-hosted by National Energy Administration of China (NEA), Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation of Malaysia and People’s Government of Fujian Province of China, in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, the forum served as a platform for valuable exchanges on regional energy development and transition, clean energy technologies and adoption, as well as investment opportunities in renewable energy.

In his keynote speech at the Opening Ceremony of the Forum, Yang Mulia Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Mohamad Azmi highlighted Brunei Darussalam’s commitment to advancing a low-carbon and sustainable energy future to ensure long-term energy security, drive economic growth, and promote sustainability. He underscored regional collaboration as vital to achieving a just and inclusive energy transition, emphasising the importance of shared expertise, technology, and investment to accelerate collective progress across the region.

Yang Mulia Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Mohamad Azmi bin Haji Mohd Hanifah also attended the ASEAN–China Ministerial Meeting on Energy Cooperation on 4 November 2025, where he underlined the importance of bilateral and multilateral power interconnections in advancing regional energy integration and supporting the transition toward a low-carbon future.  Yang Mulia Dato iterated the importance of ensuring energy security, fostering new economic opportunities in clean energy and reducing emissions, while emphasizing the vital role of regional cooperation and public–private partnerships which are aligned with Brunei Darussalam’s strategic focus.

On the sidelines of the Forum, Yang Mulia Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Mohamad Azmi made a courtesy call to His Excellency He Yang, Vice Administrator of the National Energy Administration of the People’s Republic of China. Both sides reaffirmed the strong partnership between Brunei Darussalam and the People’s Republic of China and discussed opportunities to deepen collaboration in various areas including low-carbon downstream and power sectors.

Also present at the Forum was Yang Mulia Pengiran Haji Jamra Weira bin Pengiran Haji Petra, Permanent Secretary (Energy) at the Prime Minister’s Office, who delivered a keynote speech during the 8th ASEAN+3 Clean Energy Roundtable Dialogue. He highlighted the pivotal role of energy storage in building resilient and flexible power systems and reaffirmed Brunei Darussalam’s commitment to advancing regional cooperation and innovation under the ASEAN+3 framework toward a sustainable and interconnected energy future.

Energy Authorities from ASEAN Member States (AMS), as well as representatives from international organizations, enterprises, and industry also attended the Forum, in which they broadly reaffirmed their shared commitment to enhancing energy security, promoting innovation, and fostering closer regional collaboration in support of ASEAN’s clean energy goals.
