Yang Mulia Pengiran Haji Jamra Weira bin Pengiran Haji Petra, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Energy) at the Prime Minister’s Office attended the 16th International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) General Assembly and the 16th Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), held on 11 – 12 January and 13 – 15 January 2026 respectively, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The 16th IRENA General Assembly focused on advancing renewable energy solutions to strengthen energy security, enhance agri-food and support an inclusive and cost-effective global energy transition. ADSW 2026, themed “The Nexus of Next: All Systems Go,” brought together global leaders to connect ambition with action across innovation, finance, and people.
Brunei Darussalam reaffirms its commitment to the energy transition, guided by clear targets: reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 20% by 2030 and achieving at least 30% renewable energy share in total installed capacity by 2035. To deliver these goals, Brunei Darussalam is advancing its first large utility-scale solar project by end-2026, modernizing its grid and advancing cross-border interconnection, exploring low-carbon technologies, and strengthening workforce readiness through initiatives such as the Skills and Capacity for Alternative Low Carbon Energy (SCALE), all supported by strong regional and global partnerships – including IRENA – towards a sustainable, inclusive, and prosperous energy future for all people and generations to come.
